Scoliosis Online Master: registrations open

The registration for the VII Edition of the Online Master Course "Principles and Practice of Scoliosis Conservative Treatment" 2022 is now possible.
The past editions were a great success and saw participants from all five continents engaged in an ongoing learning process, which is both captivating and effective.

Isico is keen to share its extensive clinical and scientific experience with course participants, in the hope that this will result, worldwide, in increased availability of good quality conservative treatment with a high success rate.
The PPSCT course is delivered entirely online and its development can be self-administered, through a dedicated online learning platform. It is divided into 16 modules, each lasting two or three weeks.
Every single module usually includes three recorded theoretical lectures (each about 45 minutes long), which participants can listen to at a time to suit themselves.
Each lecture recommends 2 or 3 scientific papers, to be read in order to complete the module task.
Each module includes Discussion Group sessions, focusing on specific aspects of the topic dealt with, within that module

Chinese version of the ISYQOL

The Italian Spine Youth Quality of Life (ISYQOL) questionnaire is used to evaluate health-related quality of life in adolescents with Idiopathic Scoliosis.

The study Reliability and validity of simplified Chinese version of the Italian spine youth quality of life questionnaire in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis aimed to undertake the process of cultural adaptation of the ISYQOL questionnaire into Simplified Chinese, the contemporary Chinese language primarily used in mainland China, Singapore, and Malaysia.
The culturally adapted Chinese version of the ISYQOL showed good reliability, high internal consistency, and satisfactory concurrent validity.

This instrument is therefore useful as a clinical evaluation tool for Chinese scoliosis patients.

Who decides that surgery is needed?

In case of idiopathic scoliosis without any other cause surgery must be the patient's choice, taken together with the doctor and the patient's family.
Given its risks and possible complications, surgery is not a decision that can be imposed on a patient.
What doctors must do, is make sure patients and their families are given all the correct information about their condition (based on scientific evidence and not just on their personal opinions) and then the right tools, so as to ensure that they are treated as effectively as possible.
It is important to remember that surgery is a definitive choice, and once it is undertaken, there is no going back.
